So, what does our name mean? It's an old term. We got it from the opening monologue of Shakespeare's Richard III, in which he observes that he is "not shaped for sportive tricks." John was learning the monologue and talking about the threads of ideas running through it, and Matt said, "That's it! The name of our band! Sportive Tricks!" John shrugged, then thought, then laughed hysterically. And here we are.
If you look it up in an old dictionary, it means "drollery," another term which went out of use about a century ago. Generally it seems to refer to joking around and whatnot, but has more acrobatic and jesterly overtones as well.
That's all I'm likely to say on the subject for now.
